Description:
Position Summary:Clearwater Analytics is seeking an experienced Employment Attorney to join its in-house Legal team. This senior-level role will serve as a primary legal advisor on all employment-related matters across the organization, partnering closely with HR, executive leadership, and business units to navigate complex labor and employment issues in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment. The ideal candidate brings deep substantive expertise, sound judgment, and a practical, business-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise HR and management on a broad range of employment law matters including hiring, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, separations, and reductions in force
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, offer letters, separation and severance agreements, NDAs, and independent contractor agreements
- Develop, update, and implement employment policies, handbooks, and compliance and training programs to ensure legal compliance and best practices
- Manage and oversee employment-related litigation, arbitration, and agency charges (EEOC, NLRB, state agencies), including coordination with outside counsel
- Lead internal investigations into employee complaints, including allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace misconduct
- Monitor and advise on federal, state, and local employment law developments and assess impact on company practices across multiple jurisdictions
- Partner with People Operations on compensation, benefits, and equity plan matters, ensuring compliance with applicable wage and hour laws
- Support M&A due diligence and integration activities from an employment law perspective
- Provide training and guidance to HR business partners and managers on employment law topics and risk mitigation strategies
- Contribute to the broader Legal team on cross-functional projects and company-wide initiatives
Qualifications:
Required:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
- 8+ years of employment law experience, with significant in-house counsel experience or a combination of law firm and in-house roles
- Deep expertise in federal and state employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, and state equivalents)
- Demonstrated experience managing employment litigation and agency proceedings
- Experience conducting and overseeing workplace investigations
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a variety of employment-related agreements
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide clear, actionable guidance in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization
Preferred:
- Experience in the technology, financial services, or SaaS industry
- Familiarity with employment law considerations in international jurisdictions (UK, India, EU, Hong Kong)
- Experience supporting M&A transactions from an employment law perspective
- Background advising on equity compensation and executive employment arrangements
