As our Employee Rights Attorney, you will be at the forefront of championing the rights of migrant and agricultural workers. You'll provide expert legal guidance and representation across a wide spectrum of issues, making a significant impact on the lives of those who need it most.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing information, advice, and representation on a variety of legal matters, including The Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, the regulatory provisions of the H-2A agricultural worker visa program, employment discrimination, wage claims, employment issues, housing issues, benefits issues, and other state and federal laws.
  • Collaborating with agencies serving migrant and agricultural workers
  • Creating and delivering educational and informational materials
  • Conducting outreach to partners and workers
  • Maintaining an active caseload and conducting litigation at various court levels
  • Building strong relationships within the Legal Aid community
  • Staying up-to-date with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Participating in training and seminars
  • Utilizing computer skills for efficient data management and legal research
  • Helping clients achieve self-sufficiency in line with our Mission Statement

What We're Looking For:
  • Admitted to and in good standing with the Nebraska State Bar (or admission imminent.)
  • Present ability (or willingness to develop) to manage a typical Legal Aid caseload involving significant litigation.
  • A willingness to develop specialized knowledge of laws related to migrant and agricultural workers.
  • A commitment to provide legal services to the low-income citizens of Nebraska.
  • Awareness of the legal problems and needs of low-income Nebraskans.
  • Ability to communicate with persons in the client community.
  • Ability to work effectively with other members of the firm.
  • Willingness to participate in the local bar and community.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with migrant and/or agricultural workers is strongly preferred.
