Description:

About the role:
Rueb Stoller Daniel (“RSD”) is a national plaintiff mass-tort, class-action, and consumer-protection law firm dedicated to representing individuals harmed by dangerous pharmaceuticals, medical devices, toxic exposures, and other large-scale public hazards. With offices across the U.S. and our operational headquarters in Carlsbad, CA, we are committed to delivering exceptional client service, rigorous case management, and high-quality legal work across a wide range of tort dockets.

We are expanding our attorney leadership team and are seeking a highly organized and proactive Docket Managing Attorney to oversee one of the firm's major mass-tort dockets.

The Docket Managing Attorney leads the full lifecycle of the docket—including case review, eligibility decisions, client communication, filing, and early discovery—while supervising a team of Case Managers and Paralegals to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case processing. This is a hands-on, operational role that requires strong judgment, clear communication, and the ability to manage high-volume litigation with precision.

Requirements:
Docket Leadership & Case Management
  • Oversee the complete lifecycle of all cases assigned to the docket, ensuring they move efficiently from intake through filing and early discovery.
  • Ensure all case-processing steps comply with firm-established criteria, statutory, litigation, and court specific requirements, and MDL or consolidated court orders, including statutes of limitation and repose.
  • Make determinations on case eligibility, filing decisions, and other appropriate case dispositions.
  • Review and approve complaints, short-form pleadings, census forms, fact sheets, plaintiff disclosure requirements, and other court-mandated filings prior to submission and/or filing.
  • Monitor and stay abreast of litigation status and activities for compliance with court requirements and client reporting.

Team Management & Supervision
  • Directly manage and supervise the docket's Case Managers and Paralegals, providing guidance on case review, client communications, documentation accuracy, and adherence to internal workflows.
  • Lead structured case-review meetings; track team performance; ensure timely follow-up on outstanding tasks and client needs.
  • Support professional development within the team by reinforcing training, quality expectations, and productive work habits.

Client Communication & Experience
  • Ensure timely, professional, accurate, and empathetic communication with clients throughout a litigation that can span multiple years.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for attorney-involved client communications or when issues exceed the scope of Case Managers or Paralegals.
  • Maintain high-touch communication standards consistent with the firm's client-experience expectations.

Legal Review, Filing & Compliance
  • Approve case filings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with MDL or court-specific requirements.
  • Oversee adherence to deadlines for filings, disclosures, and discovery.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent documentation in the firm's case-management systems.

Coordination with Co-Counsel & Outside Firms
  • Communicate and coordinate with other law firms regarding client information and management, including with referral law firm and other counsel when there has been multiple firm engagements by individual clients.
  • Stay updated on MDL developments, court orders, census requirements, and other docket-specific updates.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. jurisdiction; California preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in mass torts, personal injury, or complex litigation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume docket or large portfolio of cases.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and empathetically with clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and a passion for detail-oriented, process-driven legal work.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate non-attorney legal staff.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Carlsbad, CA Monday–Friday.

Preferred:
  • Experience working within an MDL or coordinated state-court litigation.
  • Prior experience supervising Case Managers, Paralegals, or litigation support staff.
  • Familiarity with mass-tort case-management platforms and document workflows.
  • Prior background in plaintiffs' litigation.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
