Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
  • The NCCU School of Law Library provides information services and resources that promote the performance of high-quality legal research activities by our faculty, students, staff and community.
  • The law library reference department has primary responsibility for providing legal research instruction and reference services to students, faculty, alumni and public patrons.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Law Library Director provides leadership and oversight of the Law Library's operations, resources, personnel, and services in support of the School of Law's academic mission.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal research methods, legal information resources, law library operations, and emerging research technologies.
  • Knowledge of law school accreditation standards and professional standards applicable to academic law libraries.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and effectively manage library personnel, operations, budgets, collections, and services.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic databases, digital resources, library technology, and information-management systems.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and services that support the academic mission of the law school.
  • Strong teaching and instructional skills, including the ability to support legal research instruction and student development.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, administrators, staff, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional and support staff.
  • Ability to assess evolving legal education, research, technology, and library trends and implement appropriate innovations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to excellent service and supporting faculty scholarship, student learning, bar readiness, and professional preparation.

Minimum Education/Experience:
J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.

Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation:
J.D. or equivalent legal degree required
