Description:

The Director of Experiential Learning (hereinafter Employee) shall have the primary responsibility of overseeing the administration of the Law Schools experiential learning programs, including simulation courses, externship placements, and clinical developments. The Employee shall be held accountable for this obligation as it contributes to the attainment of the mission of the University and the Law School. The Employee will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure the Law Schools compliance with all ABA Standards and Law School policies and procedures regarding experiential learning.

Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor; *law license in good standing with the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility; *experience with and connections within the legal communities of Knoxville, Knox County, and/or East Tennessee; and *evidence of potential for effective teaching and academic advising.

Preferred Qualifications:
at least five years of experience in law practice; *a personal record of strong academic achievement; and *mentoring, counseling, and/or tutoring experience.

teach all sections of Externship I/II during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, as well as one additional course in the fall and spring semesters;

facilitate student placements at appropriate sites each semester;

manage all paperwork associated with the site placements;

recruit new site placements,

maintain relationships with existing site placements;

maintain and develop other experiential learning opportunities for the Law School s students, including simulation courses and clinical opportunities, in coordination with the Experiential Learning and Curriculum Committees and the faculty;

build and maintain relationships with clinical faculty at other law schools and relevant local, state, and regional organizations;

Job Duty
promote the mission of A Private Liberal Arts University to all faculty, staff, students and the community at large; serve on councils and committees as directed by the Vice President & Dean of the Law School or the President of the University;

Job Duty
promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students;

Job Duty
comply with the Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and the Law School Supplement;

Job Duty
provide academic advising to students;

Job Duty
conduct office/conference hours; and

Job Duty
participate in annual staff evaluation.
