Position Description:
The Director of Academic Success will assist J.D. and LL.M. students in developing the critical skills necessary to succeed in law school, on the bar exam, and in practice. This position will design and implement the College of Law's academic support initiatives to foster a comprehensive and meaningful academic experience for students.

Responsible To: Associate Dean for Student Success Programs & Strategic Enrollment Management.

Duties:
  • Creates content for and teaches workshops designed to assist law students with the transition to law school and to promote the successful completion of their legal studies.
  • Provides consultation, guidance, and advisement to students within the College of Law regarding academic plans and strategies. Meets with and counsels students on their academic skills development; develops and oversees the execution of individualized learning plans; and provides one-on-one assistance for at-risk students. Maintains appropriate records regarding student consultations. Connects students to resources and services across the institution in support of individual student success.
  • Provides input to leadership regarding the development of advisement and curricular support programs offered by the College of Law; researches information, compiles statistics, and gathers and computes various data, as needed.
  • Teaches or co-teaches two courses per academic year, in consultation with the Dean and Associate Deans.
  • Assists with program reporting and assessment. Presents on standard academic success topics at large and small workshops and orientations.
  • Implements services for 2Ls and 3Ls to enhance performance in law school; evaluates and develops, as necessary, programs for academic success.
  • Collects and analyzes academic support data; assists with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting student data, performance, and outcome measures and assessments consistent with ABA standards.
  • Work closely with Academic Advising, the Office of Admissions, Bar Success, and Student Life to integrate academic support throughout the law school's culture.
  • Implement pre-matriculation academic preparation programming for incoming J.D. students.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and administrations to identify at-risk students and/or students on academic probation.
  • Help as needed with Bar Success Programming.
  • Oversees the Academic Success Program Committee (or related committee) and stays current on academic support pedagogy, trends, and developments.

This position will be appointed as an Academic Professional, a 12-month faculty role.

Required Experience:
Three or more years of post-law school experience or higher education academic success experience; strong writing, research, and analytical skills.

Required Education:
Applicants must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign equivalent).
