Your New Role
The Director, Legal for An American Multinational Mass Media & Entertainment Company Interactive Entertainment will handle all assigned legal affairs activities across the development, publication, marketing and sales of WBIE's video game and digital media slate. The role will include negotiating and drafting various technology agreement, working with WBIE's Business Development team to negotiate and draft various licensed publisher agreements, co-marketing agreements, distribution agreements, and working closely with internal stakeholders to provide product counseling for WBIE games and apps to ensure legal compliance.

Your Role Accountabilities
  • Negotiate and draft various technology contracts - software license agreements, data hosting and “SAAS” agreements, software development agreements, as well as more standard form vendor contracts. Evaluate software licenses, including open source, and provide counsel to business and production teams on use restrictions. Coordinate content and data security review for vendors/service providers, as applicable.
  • Work with product teams to review new and existing videogame products, features, and initiatives and advise on the application of laws (IP, consumer protection, online safety and privacy) and provide legal risk mitigation strategies to ensure legal compliance.
  • Work with WBIE Business Development to negotiate and draft various agreements (licensed publisher agreements, co-marketing agreements, distribution agreements) with platform operators and hardware manufacturers. Advise WBIE operational groups (Business Development, Marketing, Public Relations, Sales and Operations) regarding terms.
  • Provide counsel regarding marketing materials, online promotions, sponsorships, e-Sports tournaments, contests and sweepstakes.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience handling transactional work (technology, interactive entertainment and/or other digital media) preferred.
  • Admission to California State Bar in good standing or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel
  • Must have excellent negotiating and drafting skills and must be detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of videogames and digital media preferred.
  • Experience advising clients in all aspects of product development, including compliance preferred.
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international data protection and privacy regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising laws.
  • Technology, coding or engineering background helpful.
  • Should possess strong PC Skills, including proficiency with MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and willing to pitch in whenever needed.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-pace environment and to prioritize work to meet specific deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated & results oriented.
