About This Role:
We are searching for an attorney specializing in asset management to support BlackRock's institutional client businesses, which manage client mandates of all types including whole portfolio solutions, multi-strategy, and liquid and illiquid public and private portfolios. This role will support BlackRock's Financial Institutions Group which services insurers and other financial institutions. In this role, you will serve as a legal advisor to the business focusing on a variety of legal issues relating to BlackRock's provision of asset management services. You must be able to directly and proactively manage, coordinate, and advise across a wide variety of stakeholder teams, including legal, business and operations teams, on legal, regulatory, compliance, disclosure, and commercial issues. This position will sit in Atlanta or New York.

Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include negotiating agreements that govern the relationship between BlackRock and its clients and advising on complex legal issues across multiple asset classes and client types. Your work will involve structuring and documenting mandates where assets are allocated to various investment teams at BlackRock including fixed income, infrastructure, and private credit. You will provide legal advice and consultation with respect to a variety of investment vehicles, including separately managed accounts, private funds, and funds-of-one.

You should demonstrate initiative and accountability and possess excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. You will be required to work across different business functions, be consistently responsive, have confidence presenting complex issues to senior legal and business managers, and be able to work creatively in a fast-paced environment.

To ensure success you will possess the following:
  • J.D. with outstanding academic credentials and six to eight years' relevant experience as a lawyer in a major law firm, in the legal department of an asset management firm, at a regulatory agency with responsibility for overseeing asset managers, or at an insurance company.
  • Experience with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and other federal securities laws and state insurance law and regulations, with a focus on the fiduciary duties of asset managers.
  • Strong negotiation skills, drafting skills, and interpersonal skills are critical for this role. You should have outstanding analytical, written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills, contract drafting and negotiation experience, and a consistent track record working productively as a member of a team. You should solve problems in a practical manner, communicate complex concepts in an understandable way, and effectively prioritize among numerous demands.
  • You must be organized, a self-starter, and able to manage multiple time-sensitive matters. You should also excel at coordinating complex projects involving different stakeholders and assisting the business in designing and implementing solutions across a range of BlackRock products and services.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience with some or all of the following: private markets, private funds, separately managed accounts, and insurance mandates.

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$235,000.00 - USD$300,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

For Atlanta, GA Only the salary range for this position is USD$215,000.00 - USD$250,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits.
