To help advance our vision of modern money movement, A Modern Card Issuing Platform Company is looking for a Director, Assistant General Counsel, Privacy who is enthusiastic about payments technology and its potential for positive impact in peoples' lives. You will help drive high-profile cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of complex privacy and security issues relating to financial and payments products. This requires strong business acumen and the ability to both work independently and with large multi-stakeholder teams. We are looking for someone with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, organized, engaged, proactive, collaborative, and who has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking. You will report to the Deputy General Counsel overseeing product, regulatory and privacy.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop, implement, manage and scale a global privacy and data protection strategy
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Engineering, Design, Security, IT, and Marketing) to assess potential privacy and security risks and regulatory requirements for A Modern Card Issuing Platform Company's products and technologies
  • Draft and help maintain A Modern Card Issuing Platform Company's domestic and international privacy and data policies, standards, and processes
  • Stay current on evolving global data protection and privacy laws, developments, and frameworks as well as other laws with an impact on the processing of personal information (especially emerging AI regulations like the EU AI Act) and provide practical and strategic advice to the business
  • Review and maintain records of processing activities; partner with privacy team on conducting various privacy assessments (e.g., PIAs, LIAs, DPIAs)
  • Review/draft a variety of privacy agreements, including data processing agreements
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of privacy inquiries and complaints
  • Conduct privacy and data protection training for employees
  • Liaise with external counsel and other third parties on data protection matters
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure the company's privacy compliance
  • Monitor and implement best practices for data security and privacy
  • Be a team player and self-starter with drive and initiative
  • Have high integrity and great judgment while working across the organization
  • Manage a small team of privacy professionals

What We're Looking For:
  • 10+ years experience practicing in-house in fintech or banking or at a reputable law firm, preferably with at least 5 years focused on U.S. and international privacy law
  • A proven track record of successfully managing complex privacy and data protection projects from start to finish
  • Deep understanding of the privacy and data security spaces, including the laws, rules and regulations related to banks and financial institutions, both in the U.S. and abroad
  • A keen sense of ownership and the ability to independently drive complex projects to completion on tight timelines in a fast-moving, high-performing environment
  • A solid business focus with practical risk awareness and the ability to balance legal risk mitigation against key business objectives and risks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work on teams and independently; ability to drive accountability and influence outcomes
  • The ability to challenge and be challenged both internally and with clients in a constructive and respectful way
  • Advanced problem solving skills, i.e., the ability to quickly digest a problem, evaluate various options/solutions and empower yourself and others to deliver
  • Team player with a positive attitude and commitment to excellence
  • JD degree and member in good standing of a State Bar
