The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is currently looking to fill the position of Deputy Prosecutor I, II or III. Under general direction, this position performs advanced professional legal work involving a combination civil and child support enforcement caseload. The position is responsible for completing legal assignments delegated by the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, including providing legal opinions, analyzing complex legal principles, and representing the County in civil litigation and administrative proceedings. Work is performed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and professional ethical standards.
This position exercises independent judgment and discretion within established policies and procedures set by the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and the County. Policy direction is received from the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, who receives policy direction from the Prosecuting Attorney. The position handles complex assignments, difficult litigation matters, and an increasing volume of work with limited day-to-day supervision.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- All positions require admission to the Washington State Bar Association and the completion of a minimum of 45 hours of continuing legal education every three (3) years per the WSBA guidelines.
- Admission to the Washington State Bar Association must remain continuous throughout the period of employment.
- Applicants should have the following respective level of experience for the following positions.
- DPA I - Zero (0) to two (2) years prior civil or juvenile trial experience required.
- The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I -Civil position handles a combination civil and child support enforcement caseload and is responsible for accomplishing those legal assignments delegated by the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, including legal opinions, analysis of legal principles, while maintaining the highest degree of ethical conduct.
- DPA II - Three (3) to five (5) or more years prior civil legal experience, including prior appellate issue experience.
- The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney II -Civil position handles a combination civil and child support enforcement caseload and is responsible for accomplishing those legal assignments delegated by the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, including legal opinions, analysis of legal principles and litigation outcome in civil litigation or administrative proceedings, while maintaining the highest degree of ethical conduct.
- DPA III - Five (5) or more years prior civil legal experience, including prior appellate issue experience.
- A Civil DPA III performs the most difficult and complex professional legal tasks in the Civil Division, including legal opinions, analysis of legal principles, and handles civil litigation and administrative proceedings, while maintaining the highest degree of ethical conduct.
Compensation:
DPA I: Exempt Full-time, MG 19, Full Salary range: $7,871. 58- $9,681. 05, DOQ. This position is eligible for full medical benefits, including dental and vision coverage; retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); 11 paid holidays annually; three personal (floating) days; personal time off accruing at an average rate of 21 to 33 days per year based on years of service; and bereavement leave.
DPA II: Exempt Full-time, MG 20, Full Salary range: $8,461. 95 - $10,407. 14, DOQ. This position is eligible for full medical benefits, including dental and vision coverage; retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); 11 paid holidays annually; three personal (floating) days; personal time off accruing at an average rate of 21 to 33 days per year based on years of service; and bereavement leave.
DPA III: Exempt Full-time, MG 22, Full Salary range: $9,778. 84 - $12,026. 75, DOQ. This position is eligible for full medical benefits, including dental and vision coverage; retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); 11 paid holidays annually; three personal (floating) days; personal time off accruing at an average rate of 21 to 33 days per year based on years of service; and bereavement leave.
