About the role:The Deputy General Counsel for Litigation & Policy will drive strategy and execution to navigate the significant legal and policy challenges faced by a rapidly growing nationwide immigration practice. The Deputy General Counsel will manage the firm's offensive/defensive litigation and policy matters throughout the United States, as well as proactively advise on a wide variety of legal matters that pose litigation risk to our products and services, including privacy, ethics, compliance, and procurement. The Deputy General Counsel will further strengthen the firm's best practices in anticipating and responding to governance issues. With the General Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel will strive to proactively advance the firm's position and interests by identifying and working on legal policy issues that affect our services.
Your Key Contributions
- Manage all aspects of litigation and disputes on behalf of the firm, including privacy, ethics, employment, procurement, real estate, technology, and security; collaborate with outside counsel on strategy and execution.
- Provide strategic counsel to firm leadership on matters involving legal interpretation and decisions related to operations and policy questions.
- Advise on legal, compliance, and ethical risks across all departments (Legal, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, IT,) and provide solutions and recommendations for improvement.
- Drive and/or build coalitions with like-minded partners in pursuing strategic impact litigation to meet client needs and advance the firm's policy objectives.
- Advise departments during business negotiations and help negotiate a broad spectrum of transactions, including vendor agreements, consulting agreements, licensing agreements, collaboration agreements, and technology transactions.
- Assist the Chief Legal Officer and the General Counsel in overseeing the investigations function into reported ethical violations and ensuring appropriate disciplinary actions.
- Provide guidance and oversee training by the Legal Department across the firm on ethical conduct, compliance with firm policies, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Manage the selection, work direction, and expenditures of outside counsel relationships.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and current bar membership in good standing.
- 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in-house, at a law firm, or in government; 5+ years of experience providing legal counsel on a broad array of issues strongly preferred.
- Extensive pretrial and trial experience, including drafting, editing, and supervising pleadings at all stages of litigation and managing discovery in complex matters.
- Substantial experience preparing witnesses and victims for interviews, depositions, and trials.
- Experience leading teams of attorneys and support staff and developing metrics to track and improve team productivity and accountability.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making in a dynamic legal and business environment, including thinking strategically and creatively to solve complex legal challenges.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills and ability to leverage these skills to drive consensus and deliver outcomes.
- Experience working with diverse cultures, across diverse teams, and in a multi-national large complex organization to build strong relationships and coalitions.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time to corporate office in Dublin, Ohio
