Description:

An In-House Firm is seeking a Deputy General Counsel to join a global team of four, reporting directly to An In-House Firm's highest ranking legal officer, its General Counsel and Head of Global Functions, who is also the Chair of the Board of Directors. As Deputy General Counsel, you would be responsible for providing front-line legal and strategic guidance and support across the global business and would have exposure to the highest levels of management within the Company.

The role is based in New York.

Do you feel…
  • Motivated to provide support to the General Counsel, other executive officers and the Board on negotiating strategic deals and mergers and acquisitions, resolving commercial issues, and handling various legal disputes and inquiries.
  • Determined to assist with securities and public company work for a U.S. publicly traded company, as well as global corporate governance matters and potential reorganizations of the business.
  • Keen to serve as a single point of contact for all legal matters globally, including providing coverage for the General Counsel and other team members.
  • Capable of identifying and consulting on global legal risks in connection with An In-House Firm's products and services, particularly in the areas of data privacy, travel regulations and state and country-specific regulations for the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Spain and France (EU) and, occasionally, various countries in Asia.
  • Confident to assist the General Counsel (located in New York), Counsel (in Munich, Germany), and Contracts Manager (in Florida) in the management of An In-House Firm's global contracts, including with the negotiation of non-standard terms and handling of significant contract disputes.
  • Able to assist Human Resources with the management and legal review of employment agreements and employment policies globally and manage employment disputes, along with the General Counsel, to successful resolutions.
  • Dedicated to assist in the centralization and improvement of various integral processes across the organization and help to craft an efficient and dynamic legal department.
  • Able to work with outside counsel as needed (particularly for specialized matters including matters that require local law advice), with a generalist's desire and skills to first try to research and address disputes or issues internally.
  • Ready to assist in the management of An In-House Firm's intellectual property portfolio and licensing business and support An In-House Firm's new An In-House Firm META business, headquartered in Hong Kong.
  • Excited to gain exposure to the founders, Board of Directors and upper-level management of a publicly traded company and its subsidiaries including Jack's Flight Club.
  • Ready to partner with and be mentored by the Company's General Counsel, with a clear internal growth path.
  • Willing and able to be a true generalist and daily expand your knowledge from both a legal and business perspective.

You are ideally…
  • A professional with at least 5-8+ years of relevant post-qualified, international work experience (law firm and/or in-house); preference for experience as a transactional, M&A attorney.
  • An excellent leader with the ability and willingness to also undertake executional work.
  • Trustworthy and hands-on as you will handle significant and complex legal matters with short turnaround times.
  • Experienced in drafting and reviewing various types of legal agreements and able to adapt legal requirements in a pragmatic and business-focused way.
  • Strong in negotiation and problem-solving and willing and able to try to find a solution before seeking outside support.
  • A clear and concise communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively navigate issues externally and internally, including across departments.
  • Willing to work across multiple time zones and travel (as needed).
  • A highly collaborative team player with strong attention to detail and flexibility.
  • Able to successfully manage competing priorities, work independently and deliver quality work.
  • Degree educated and registered as an attorney in the United States (New York bar qualified); qualification in additional jurisdiction (U.K., Germany or Spain) a plus, but not required; experience working with and/or in the U.K. or European markets (in particular, Germany, France, Spain) required; experience working in Asian markets a plus; proficiency in other languages (German, Spanish or French) a plus.
