The Office of the District Attorney is hiring for Deputy District Attorney III

This Series recruitment will close on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

The Deputy District Attorney III is the journey-level class of its series. Incumbents share with higher-level attorneys in prosecuting cases consisting of murder, conspiracy, sexual assault, or fraud; these cases involve a high degree of public interest and complex legal principles. A Deputy District Attorney III may also supervise a team of junior deputies in the performance of crime trial work.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California; AND,
  • One (1) year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in the County of San Diego, or at an equivalent level with another California county or California city prosecutorial agency; OR,
  • Three (3) years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal and/or civil law.

Conditions of Employment:
As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment.
