We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with strong legal and leadership skills to join our team as Deputy Director, Assistant Chief Counsel of Office of Legal Affairs. As a Deputy Director, you will:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Legal Affairs, including assisting on policy matters and supporting administrative functions.
  • Provide effective leadership to ensure quality of work, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Build and maintain positive and effective relationships with staff, leadership, and external partners and exhibit a high degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills, exercising open-mindedness, diplomacy, flexibility, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Direct policy and oversee contract administration, outside counsel vendor management, and assist in the development and management of the divisional budget.
  • Advise and direct the work of attorneys and divisional staff on a wide variety of legal work.

This position's office headquarters location is designated in Sacramento. Travel expenses associated with commuting to the employee's office headquarters location are not reimbursable, other than authorized transit subsidies.

Desirable Qualifications:
In Addition to Evaluating Each Candidate's Relative Ability, as Demonstrated by Quality and Breadth of Experience, the Following Factors Will Provide the Basis for Competitively Evaluating Each Candidate:
  • Ability to Act as A Legal Advisor to Management and Executive Leadership, Including the Ability to Formulate Legal Policy and Initiate and Recommend Strategic Changes Impacting Programs and The Organization to Meet Objectives and Further the Mission.
  • Strong Leadership Skills and Experience Running a Team of Attorneys and Professional Legal Staff Including Experience in And Knowledge of Management Principles, Personnel and Equal Employment Opportunity Policies, Budget Administration, and Contract Oversight.
  • Breadth and Variety of Experience as An Attorney in Areas of State and Federal Law Applicable to A Free Service from The State of California as A Public Entity and State-Based Marketplace Under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Excellent Analytical, Research, and Written and Oral Communication Skills, as Well as A Demonstrated Ability to Prioritize Workload and Manage Multiple Projects with Short-Term Deadlines.
