Position Overview:
The West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute is seeking a qualified, dedicated, and experienced attorney to serve as Deputy Director. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Deputy Director plays a critical role in fulfilling the Institute's statutory mission to elevate the legal profession, enhance the administration of justice, and provide robust support to the state's 55 county prosecuting attorneys and their staffs.

The ideal candidate possesses criminal prosecution experience, exceptional leadership skills, a passion for legal education, and a strong commitment to public service.

Core Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership: Assist the Executive Director in the daily administration, strategic planning, and overall management of the Institute.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE): Develop, coordinate, and deliver high-quality training programs, seminars, and educational materials for prosecutors, assistance prosecutors, support staff, state and local law enforcement, forensic child interviewers, victim advocates, and others involved in the criminal justice system statewide.

Technical & Legal Assistance: Provide expert case consultation and trial support to county prosecutors.

Legislative Tracking: Monitor, analyze, and report on pending legislation affecting criminal justice, public safety, and prosecutorial duties in West Virginia.

Agency Representation: Serve as a liaison to county prosecuting attorney's offices, state and local law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, the West Virginia Department of Human Services, and other state departments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.): Graduation from an accredited law school.

Licensure: Active member in good standing with the West Virginia State Bar.

Experience: Intensive criminal trial experience or other relevant experience, preferably as a prosecuting attorney or assistant prosecuting attorney in West Virginia.
