The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the City Attorney and performs a variety of technical and professional work primarily in the area of prosecuting crimes, drafting legal documents, advising city officials as to legal rights, obligations, practices and other related phases of applicable local, state, or federal law.

Qualified applicants must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and have no felony convictions; General knowledge of State statutes relating to criminal offenses, criminal law, criminal procedure, and traffic law. Must be licensed to practice law within the State of Arkansas.

Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  • Prosecute all misdemeanors or violations on behalf of the City of Springdale.
  • Provide professional advice to city employees, as directed by the City Attorney and Senior Deputy City Attorney.
  • Issue written and oral opinions.
  • Adjust errors and complaints within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Gather evidence in criminal cases for prosecution.
  • Conduct research, interview witnesses, victims of crime, and handle other details in preparation for trial.
  • Prepare legal briefings; develop strategy and argument in preparation for presentation in court.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for City officials and staff in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Attend public meetings at the request of the City Attorney or the Senior Deputy City Attorney.
  • Perform other City legal work as assigned by the City Attorney and Senior Deputy City Attorney.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience:
