Description:
The Long Beach City Attorney seeks to employ a full-time staff attorney with strong transactional skills to work in the Departmental Counsel division. A minimum of three years' experience in varied public law work including contracts, purchase orders, leases, permits, the California Public Records Act, and the Brown Act is preferred. The candidate must be comfortable and confident appearing before local boards and commissions in a variety of administrative settings. Responsibilities include providing advice to City departments, boards and commissions; preparing legal opinions, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases; and representing the City in both civil and administrative proceedings.

This Is an "at-Will" Position. the Appointed Candidate Will Serve at The Discretion of The City Attorney and Can Be Released at Any Time. in Such an Event, the Candidate Is Not Afforded the Right to Any Appeal or Grievance Procedure Under Any Rule or Regulation of The City of Long Beach.

Examples of Duties:
  • Provide Legal Research, Advice and Draft a Variety of Municipal Contracts, Leases, Permits, Purchase and Sale Documents and Grant Documents.
  • Provide City Departments with Legal Advice and Opinions Regarding Local, State and Federal Law.
  • Provide Legal Analysis and Advice Regarding Ethics and The Brown Act.
  • May Provide Support to The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine.
  • Draft a Variety of Municipal Ordinances and Resolutions.
  • Perform Other Related Duties as Assigned or Requested, Including Occasional Administrative Hearings or Litigation Matters.

Requirements to File
  • Graduation from Law School Accredited by The Aba or The California Committee of Bar Examiners.
  • A Member of The California State Bar in Good Standing with No Prior History of Discipline.
  • Three Years of Legal Experience Working as An Attorney.
  • Experience with Municipal Real Estate Agreements (i.E. Leases, Purchase and Sale Agreements, Easement).
  • A Valid California Class C Driver's License.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Windows 10.
