Location: Boise, Idaho. As Idaho's capital, Boise is a growing city of approximately 226,570 and offers a rich variety of both cultural and recreational opportunities. Idaho's world-famous fly-fishing, skiing, kayaking and hiking are all within easy access.

Primary Duties: The Office of the Attorney General, Energy & Natural Resources Division is seeking a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to provide legal counsel to the Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) and Idaho Water Resources Board (Board).

The DAG will work closely with IDWR and Board staff to provide legal advice and representation in areas including water law, administrative law, statutory interpretation, rulemaking, contracts and regulatory enforcement. The position may involve appearances in district court and the Idaho Supreme Court.

Essential Functions:
  • Appears before administrative bodies, state and federal district courts and courts of appeals, including the Idaho Supreme Court.
  • Engages with third parties and their counsel, both in-person and virtually.
  • Drafts clear and accurate analysis of complex facts based upon thorough legal research.
  • Utilizes personal computer technology, sometimes for prolonged periods of time, to perform research and draft memoranda to address client needs.
  • Receives and responds timely to client and supervising attorney requests.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Admission to the Idaho State Bar and a member in good standing. or eligible for reciprocity.
  • At least two years of relevant legal and technical work experience or coursework.
  • Exceptional public speaking, computer, writing, editing, telephone, and client management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong computer skills and effective use of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
