Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, provide legal services to entirety of state government, and fight fraud.In the Civil Division, approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice, administrative hearing prosecutions, board representation, and all stages of civil litigation.

Summary Statement
The Department of Justice (“DOJ”), Civil Division, Administrative Law and Education Unit (“ALE”), seeks a Deputy Attorney General (“DAG”) to provide legal advice to the Delaware Department of Education (“DOE”). The DAG will serve as counsel to the Associate Secretary for Workforce Support, the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Department of Education's Freedom of Information Act Office, and the Governor's Advisory Counsel for Exceptional Citizens.
The DAG may have other duties related to the DOE and will handle additional assignments as directed by the State Solicitor, Deputy State Solicitor, Unit Head, or Assistant Unit Head.

Membership in Delaware Bar is required. The most qualified candidates have some education law, administrative law or board representation experience; however, such expertise and experiences are not required for selection. The DAG should be able to take a proactive approach to assisting their agency clients, therefore a successful candidate should have the ability to work with State agencies to identify potential issues and assist State agencies to address such issues to minimize or avoid future legal action. The DAG should be able to work independently, meet deadlines, communicate clearly with client agencies, and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.
The DAG must be available for some evenings meetings. Flex time will be allowed.
