Summary:
The Staff Attorney is responsible for providing legal services to potential clients in Immigration, Guardianship, Wills, Power of Attorney, and Probate Matters. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for legal staff caseload and complying with agency and grants measurable. Staff Attorney will assist in outreach and in legal clinics.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Will provide legal consultations and representation in the area of Immigration, Guardianship, Wills, Power of Attorney, and Probate.
  • Will assess and determine if Caritas Legal Service is able to provide representation.
  • Attend hearings or interviews with clients.
  • Will assist in collaborating with other organization to provide legal services.
  • Maintain financial expenditures of funds to be allocated for IOLTA, grants, and other funding sources.
  • Participate in Department sponsored functions.
  • Complete reports to monitor funding and services provided.
  • Maintain contact with clients on a regular basis.
  • Prepare necessary pleadings, discovery and legal documents.
  • Appear in court and represent clients for hearings, motions, or trial.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Texas License Attorney.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of one years' experience in immigration law with at least two years of experience in practicing law and/or experience working in a law office.
  • License and Credentials
    • Reliable transportation
    • Valid driver license
    • Valid vehicle insurance
    • Bilingual preferred

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
  • Minimum of two years' experience in law setting including civil and immigration.
  • Extensive working knowledge of legal procedure, and law research.
  • Experience with computer software.
  • A solid grasp of research and preparing legal documents.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
