Davis Wright Tremaine LLP seeks a midlevel associate in Washington D.C. (preferred), New York, Portland, or San Francisco to join its robust FERC regulatory practice.The associate will support a nationally recognized FERC practice advising:
- Electric and natural gas utilities
- Developers of generation, storage, transmission, and other energy infrastructure
- Data center clients with complex energy and interconnection needs
The role will be approximately 80% FERC regulatory work, with the remainder supporting a growing mix of data center–related and energy transactional matters.
Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on matters arising under the Federal Power Act and Natural Gas Act
- Represent utilities, developers, and market participants before FERC in regulatory proceedings
- Support matters involving:
- Electric transmission rates and incentives
- Interconnection and large-load issues, including data centers
- Natural gas pipeline certification, rates, and compliance
- Assist with regulatory aspects of energy infrastructure transactions
- Conduct legal research, draft filings, and manage agency interactions
- Collaborate across practices on infrastructure, regulatory, and energy-transition matters
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in the relevant U.S. jurisdiction
- 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Meaningful experience with FERC regulatory matters
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Large law firm or government (FERC or state commission) experience
- Experience with electric and/or natural gas regulatory work
- Familiarity with interconnection, or energy infrastructure development
- Familiarity with hydropower licensing would be beneficial but is not a requirement
- Interest in working at the intersection of regulation, infrastructure investment, and emerging energy demands (including data centers)

The annualized salary range for this position is $215,000 to $315,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate's education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a bonus and health insurance with an optional HSA, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401(k), vacation, sick time, 10 paid holidays each year and an employee assistance program. For full-time employees, the initial sick leave benefit is 80 hours of sick leave per year. Attorneys generally take approximately three weeks of vacation from work each year, and it may vary depending on the needs of the clients and the firm. Additional voluntary benefits programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long-term care, and pet insurance. Commuter and Transit programs are also available.
