AIPSO is a management organization and service provider for various insurance industry groups responsible for administering the residual market. We are a national organization that serves local customer needs. Centralization and standardization are key to many AIPSO services because of the inherent economies of scale and other efficiencies. However, our organization is based on customer focus and recognizes the need for flexibility in serving customer groups with diverse interests.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage and provide oversight over all litigated claims under the AIPSO Insurance Operations program including supervision of the claims Third Party Administrator (TPA) and outside counsel.
- Ensure AIPSO Litigation Management Guidelines are followed.
- Provide oversight for development of litigation and resolution strategies.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to AIPSO Claims Director and Claims Examiners to analyze risks and reduce exposures.
- Collaborate with AIPSO Claims Director to refine internal claims best practices and operating procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory developments affecting the automobile residual market in the various states and the operations of AIPSO.
- Review legal implications of various statutory and regulatory changes and court rulings.
- Provide legal advice to State Plan Governing Committees/Boards, as appropriate or necessary.
- Attend hearings or other legal proceedings as necessary before the courts as well as federal and state regulatory agencies.
Education:
Law Degree and current admission in good standing to a State Bar required.
Experience:
8 or more years of experience as a practicing attorney in insurance defense with an emphasis on commercial auto and trucking. Experience with property and casualty policy interpretation. Familiarity with state insurance statutes and regulations, administrative law, litigation, and insurance governmental relations desired.
Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
- Proven track record of litigating large loss and complex claims for commercial property and casualty insurance companies.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office productivity tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel) and working knowledge of Lexis and other legal research tools.
- Effective problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze complex issues, find the root cause of the problem and consider a wide range of alternatives before acting.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals.
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally and effectively in a team environment.
- Provide feedback and input in group meetings and discussions.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and exercise excellent judgment in cross-functional situations.
Salary Range: $132,400 – $211,600/$157,500-$251,700 Annual. Actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; internal equity and other conditions of employment.
