Description:

How you'll make impact
  • Airwallex is scaling its Yield product across existing and new markets, creating complex legal and regulatory questions across product design, partner arrangements, customer documentation and launch execution. You'll be the embedded legal partner helping the product team turn those questions into practical solutions.
  • Own legal support for the global Yield Product team from product design and ideation through launch, market expansion and ongoing product changes.
  • Advise on the legal and regulatory requirements for launching Yield, or equivalent products, in new jurisdictions, working closely with local regulatory colleagues and external counsel.
  • Translate complex, cross-jurisdictional requirements into practical product decisions, including product requirements, customer terms, disclosures and launch-readiness materials.
  • Build trusted relationships with Product, Regulatory Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Licensing, Risk, Product Marketing, Operations and regulated partners, becoming the go-to legal expert for how Yield works and how it can grow responsibly.
  • Develop scalable legal playbooks, launch checklists, governance processes and repeatable approaches that help the team expand efficiently while minimising local risk.
  • Partner across jurisdictions and time zones, including with colleagues and product leaders based in Australia, and coordinate advice across the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Europe and other relevant markets.

You'll work from our San Francisco or New York office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

What We're Looking For:
Essentials
  • A JD or equivalent law degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of post-qualification legal experience, including experience at a top-tier law firm or in a comparable financial-services legal environment.
  • Experience advising on investment products, wealth management, discretionary or non-discretionary investment management, broker-dealer arrangements, custodial relationships, investment-management structures or related customer disclosures and documentation.
  • Strong regulatory advisory and product counselling experience with a reputable law firm, financial institution or fintech, including meaningful experience advising on wealth-management products.
  • Experience advising on licensing or the establishment of investment services, ideally including a U.S. broker-dealer or FINRA-regulated service, product or equivalent arrangement in another jurisdiction.
  • A track record of working strategically with non-lawyers and translating legal and regulatory requirements into practical, commercially minded solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Product, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Marketing, external counsel, regulated partners and senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
  • The ability to manage complex, cross-jurisdictional legal workstreams, prioritise competing demands and own advice from product ideation through launch and expansion.
  • Curiosity and learning agility, with a willingness to understand unfamiliar regulatory frameworks, markets and customer needs.

Preferred:
  • In-house legal experience in fintech, financial services, wealth management, asset management, securities, brokerage or another regulated financial-services environment.
  • Experience working with banks, broker-dealers, custodians, investment managers or other regulated partners.
  • Experience across securities, investment-adviser, investor-protection, fiduciary, suitability or equivalent regulatory frameworks in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience building scalable legal playbooks, product-governance processes, launch checklists or other tools that improve legal efficiency.
  • Experience supporting product launches or market expansion across jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States or other relevant markets.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, product-led environment with high standards, evolving priorities and incomplete information.

You'll thrive here if
  • You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.
  • You're consistently looking to take on new and diverse challenges, expand your knowledge beyond your current areas of expertise, and are comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone to do it.
  • You enjoy working closely with people across multiple countries and time zones as part of one connected, global team, including flexing your hours occasionally to make that connection work.
  • You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with respect.
  • You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.
