Position Overview:
As Counsel, this role provides strategic legal guidance on complex commercial and U.S. Government contracting matters, ensuring compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations and leading negotiations on significant contract actions. The position supports the organization through litigation management, ethics and compliance investigations, proposal and protest review, and the preparation of formal reports and training for internal stakeholders. Additionally, this role collaborates across departments to manage legal risks, facilitate public‑release reviews, and address evolving legal needs within BWX Technologies, Inc.

Onsite in Lynchburg, VA; Relocation is available as needed.

Your Day to Day as Counsel:
  • Advises company officials and employees on contractual matters both on commercial and U.S. Government contracts with a greater emphasis on the latter. Review and formally concur on major contract actions taken by the company.
  • Participates in contract negotiations with customers and suppliers and leading negotiating teams in the negotiation of complex transactions.
  • Reviews contract documents and company purchasing procedures for compliance with the pertinent regulations. Interface with Panels and Boards related to Federal Government Contract Compliance matters and maintain current knowledge on the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Agency supplements to the FAR.
  • Assists with project proposal preparation and review and potential post- award protest.
  • Assists with Corporate Ethics and Compliance investigations arising out of ethics and compliance hotline calls, employee reporting through the management chain or at the request of the Government or other customers. Prepare formal reports when required by Government and non-government customers.
  • Manages and assists with litigation including budget, providing ongoing communication to clients and the legal department and developing strategies for the litigation and the potential for settlement.
  • Prepares and presents relevant training to company personnel.
  • Supports communications teams in the review of information for public release.
  • Supports other legal needs and priorities within the BWX Technologies, Inc. as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess at least seven (7) years of experience which includes extensive complex federal government engineering and/or equipment manufacturing contracting, execution and claims experience and/or compliance.
  • Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must have a current active status in at least one State Bar as certified by the Supreme Court of the licensing jurisdiction.
  • Knowledge on the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Agency supplements to the FAR.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts and managing legal risks and disputes.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in conveying complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, and strong judgment in decision-making.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience negotiating commercial nuclear, manufacturing, and fuel contracts with System OEMs and/or utility companies.
  • Experience representing companies before environmental regulators or nuclear licensing agencies.
  • Experience supporting export complaince activities governed by the EAR, ITAR, DOE Part 810, and NRC Part 110, including determining export classifications.
