Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing legal and risk management expertise to support AGC members with a focus on construction law, contracts, insurance and other risk financing tools
  • Leads AGC's substantive efforts relating to ConsensusDocs and its contract development and revisions
  • Supports AGC's litigation and advocacy initiatives in areas of construction and insurance law
  • Co-leads AGC's flagship Surety Bonding and Construction Risk Management Conference and related peer meetings and develops best practices resources

Duties:
Construction Law & Contracts
  • Serves as AGC's subject matter expert on construction law, contracts, procurement, project delivery methods, and dispute resolution
  • Provides guidance and resources on contract risk allocation project delivery methods, and claims.
  • Tracks and communicates trends in contract litigation and procurement reform.
  • Leads AGC's substantive efforts and manages/develops relationships with key stakeholders/groups (e.g., Contract Documents Committee and ConsensusDocs multi-association coalition) relating to ConsensusDocs and its contract development and revisions.
  • Supports and provides input on business-end ConsensusDocs growth as needed and appropriate
  • Leads AGC's substantive efforts and manages/develops relationships with key stakeholders/groups (e.g., the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law) relating to the State Law Matrix and its updates

Insurance & Risk Management
  • Co-lead AGC programming on insurance coverage, risk financing, and surety.
  • Develop resources on builders risk, subcontractor default, wrap-up insurance, cyber/AI risk, and emerging coverage issues (e.g., PFAS, climate-related claims).
  • Engage with carriers, brokers, and member firms to identify trends and best practices.
  • Support member inquiries and advocacy related to insurance and surety law.

Program & Conference Management
  • Develop and deliver programming, resources, and guidance on contract risk allocation, project delivery, and claims management, including but not limited to:
  • As lead of substantive efforts for ConsensusDocs: Practical training on ConsensusDocs; comparisons to other form contracts; other ConsensusDocs business-end support; and updates to AGC's State Law Matrix.
  • As co-lead staff for the Surety Bonding & Construction Risk Management Conference: designing program content and speaker selection; coordinating pre-conference peer meetings for in-house counsel and risk managers; and managing sponsor/partner relationships in coordination with AGC's events team.
  • As a subject matter expert: resources for AGC's Risk Management Committee and other peer groups.

Litigation & Advocacy Support
  • Support AGC litigation and amicus efforts on contract, insurance, and surety issues.
  • Provide input on policy proposals and regulations affecting contract risk and insurance law.
  • Collaborate with other AGC staffers on cross-cutting matters (e.g., labor or environmental litigation with contract/insurance implications) as appropriate.

Member & Industry Engagement
  • Author articles, best practices, and legal updates for AGC publications and websites.
  • Present at AGC programs and external conferences.
  • Serve as a point of contact for AGC members seeking guidance on contract and insurance issues.

Requirements:
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 4-5+ years of experience in construction, insurance, or surety law (law firm, in-house, or trade association).
  • Strong knowledge of contracts negotiation, risk allocation, and construction law principles.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational content and manage large programs/events.
  • Excellent legal writing, presentation/public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable strategies/takeaways for non-legal stakeholders.

Preferred:
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programs or compliance tools.
  • Experience in the construction industry or with trade associations.
