The Role:
The Corporate Counsel for Compliance (CCC) at HII serves as a key member of the HII Compliance Team and Law Department; responsible for assisting the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer (DCCO) and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) with oversight and coordination of all Compliance activities at HII and its subsidiaries. This position can either be based in Arlington, VA or Newport News, VA.

Major Responsibilities of the CCC:
  • Assist with the development, implementation and management of the Corporate Annual Compliance Plan. Manage the day-to-day activities of the HII enterprise due diligence program and other assigned enterprise-level Compliance initiatives.
  • Assist the divisional Directors of Compliance and Assistant General Counsels in completing the Division Annual Compliance Plans.
  • Build strong working relationships with the Divisional Compliance Program Managers and other Compliance team members and assist them with their needs.
  • Assist Core Element Managers and Corporate Vice Presidents in the completion of compliance core element plans.
  • Manage and supervise the Third Party Management System, HII's Compliance Assessment Management System (CAMS) and related software, and technology initiatives related to HII's Compliance Program.
  • Create, promote, and implement industry best practices.
  • Work with management and division leaders to formalize and maintain systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent, detect, and remediate compliance failures.

Must Have:
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school and four years of experience
  • Member in good standing of a state bar, preferably the Virginia State Bar. The successful applicant will need to be at least a corporate member of the Virginia State Bar shortly after his or her start date.

Nice to Have:
  • Three+years of experience in compliance, legal, or related fields.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • Strong business acumen and an understanding of the defense industry.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact with and persuade deck-plate shipbuilders, engineers, vice presidents, and members of the board of directors.
