Job Description and Duties:
The False Claims Unit of the Corporate Fraud Section investigates and litigates violations of the False Claims Act (Government Code section 12650 et seq.)

False Claims cases often involve complex litigation in which large amounts are at stake.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting investigations;
  • Litigating cases before state and federal trial courts;
  • Preparing and responding to discovery requests and taking depositions;
  • Preparing appellate briefs and arguing in appellate courts;
  • Working cooperatively and effectively in teams of attorneys, auditors, analysts, and experts;
  • Performing a variety of legal and other research;
  • Drafting settlements and distribution plans;
  • Working on joint investigations and actions with federal and local government attorneys and attorneys general in other states.

  • Please note that appointment to the DAG classifications will be made using the following examinations:
    • Attorney exam – less than 5 years of experience: Attorney Examination
    • DAG III exam– at least 5 years of legal experience: DAG III Examination
    • DAG IV exam– at least 6 years of legal experience: DAG IV Examination

Desirable Qualifications:
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Knowledge of civil procedure and evidence, litigation skills, and ability to perform detailed research and writing;
  • Interest and/or experience in investigations, including complex and/or technical investigations;
  • Initiative and ability to work under significant time pressure when necessary;
  • Experience in complex litigation and the management of discovery documents in an electronic database is also useful but not required.
