Job Overview:
This position is responsible for supporting the legal needs of Mercedes-Benz with a focus on class action and consumer litigation as well as advertising and marketing law, and cross-functional business counseling. This role provides practical, business-oriented guidance and helps ensure compliant, customer-focused practices across the organization. This position may also be responsible for other legal topics which impact Mercedes-Benz.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of internal and external stakeholders to address a wide-variety of class action litigation, including matters related to Magnuson-Moss, breach of warranty, product liability, and other claims.
  • Provides guidance to MBUSA's internal business units in order to effectively resolve customer claims and ensures they are properly informed of legal issues relating to their activities.
  • Reviews marketing and advertising materials (digital, print, social, email, broadcast) for legal compliance and accuracy including supporting compliance of website content, online and digital tools, and customer-journey communications.
  • Develop proactive strategies to evaluate legal claims and creates processes for the cost-effective and strategic resolution of litigation and pre-litigation claims. Creates measures to control costs, comply with operating budgets, and review and approve outside counsel costs.
  • Responsible for coordinating discovery responses, preparing and identifying appropriate witnesses, appearing on behalf of the company in connection with legal matters, effectuating strategy, controlling outside counsel expenses, and coordinating litigation strategy with colleagues from around the business.
  • Effectively guides and leads interdisciplinary and/or international working groups and teams.
  • Collaborating with corporate communications on press releases and social media content.
  • Keeping legal management and business teams apprised of significant lawsuits and legal issues; work with business teams on root cause analysis of lawsuits
  • Supervising paralegal(s) who support litigation-related work.
  • Working with legal and business teams on how to reduce risk
  • Performing legal research as necessary and documenting findings via formal memorandum
  • Utilizing Artificial Intelligence and other tools to efficiently manage legal topics.
  • Providing general legal support on ad‑hoc legal questions, compliance questions, and risk mitigation topics.

Qualifications:
Qualifications
  • Licensed as an attorney to practice law, with a minimum of 5 years as a practicing lawyer with law firm or in-house litigation experience.
  • Significant experience litigating class action, consumer protection and/or product liability claims preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Experience counseling on advertising and marketing compliance (EG, FTC compliance, state consumer protection/UDAP statutes, etc.) is strongly preferred, in addition to class action and consumer litigation experience.
  • Strong writing, communication, and issue-spotting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent professional and academic credentials.
  • Have excellent legal research and writing skills
  • A willingness to learn about company products, activities, structure, and third-party business relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail with above-average multi-tasking skills and the ability to adapt quickly to situations that require immediate transition.
  • Ability to leverage AI, technology, software, and databases to manage workflow efficiently and collaborate with other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to represent the company's interests and other business activities.
  • Ability to work in person on a “hybrid” or other schedule as determined by corporate policy or business needs at Mercedes-Benz USA's Sandy Springs, GA office.
