Mid-level attorney with experience in employment law, including litigation, administrative charges, and compliance. Assist in ensuring McLane's operations are following legal requirements.
This position is based in Temple, TX, which will require the candidate to report and work from the office on a regular basis. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute commute to Temple, TX.

- Provide high quality, timely and cost-effective legal services that help the company maximize opportunities and mitigate risk.
- Assist in ensuring McLane's operations are in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local legal requirements and assist with drafting policies governing the same.
- Effectively manage outside counsel in defending employment litigation matters and administrative actions.
- Advise management on litigation strategy.
- Advise management and Human Resources (HR) on a full range of employment law issues.
- Perform legal research, evaluate, and assess legal risks involving the organization.
- Develop strategic goals and work with management and HR to implement those goals.
- Draft and review settlement and separation agreements and other employment related documents.
- Monitor developments in national, state, and local laws, and educate HR and management.
- Oversee investigations of teammate relations matters and provide advice and counsel on handling teammate relations situations.
- Provide advice on matters involving HR policies and procedures, including but not limited to wage & hour, compensation, teammate benefits,
- Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), immigration, and employment law.
- Create training materials and provide training opportunities on employment law issues to management and HR professionals.
- Prepare and manage litigation holds related to employment matters.
- Attend depositions and mediations regarding employment matters.
- Advise and prepare documentation related to Reductions in Force.
- Provide counsel and work as a team with other attorneys in the department and company managers.
- Assist in all aspects of the business for which the Legal Department has responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and be licensed to practice in at least one state.
- Three or more years' litigation experience in a business environment as in-house counsel or comparable law firm experience including working directly with businesspeople.
- Demonstrated experience in labor and employment matters, including administrative charges and litigation.
- Familiarity with California, Illinois and New York employment law preferred.
- Ability to work independently to assess and resolve legal issues.
- Ability to handle multiple projects.
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- High integrity and confidence, good interpersonal skills, effective presentation skills, and the ability to be persuasive.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
- Excellent analytical research and writing skills.
- Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and document comparison software.
- This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
