Position Overview: The Legal Department of Chiquita Brands International, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Corporate Counsel to join its Legal Department. This role is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at Chiquita's corporate headquarters (not remote). The selected candidate will report directly, and serve as the right hand, to the Head of the U.S. Legal Department.

This selected candidate will be responsible for various corporate law matters, including: working closely with the Latin American operations with regard to the supply of fruit, performing transactional work such as drafting/reviewing contracts and conducting legal research, and providing timely legal advice to internal clients across various departments.

Job Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active member of the Florida Bar who is, and must remain, in good standing and licensed to practice law
  • Fully bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Knowledge of Florida law and business law
  • Transactional experience with strong drafting, researching, and negotiating skills
  • Good computer skills including a proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience handling arbitrations (preferred, not required)
  • Experience handling legal matters involving Latin American countries (preferred, not required)

Job Environment:
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
  • Candidate may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
  • Candidate may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
