Description:
Position Summary:The Corporate Counsel will serve as in-house legal counsel for Gurr Brothers Construction & Affiliates, providing legal support across all divisions, including construction, restoration, mitigation, and contents/packout services. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, reduces legal risk, manages contracts and disputes, and provides proactive guidance on employment, safety, and operational matters.
The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of legal experience with a background in construction law, labor and employment, contracts, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, NDAs, vendor agreements, and client service agreements.
- Provide counsel to executive leadership and HR on employment law, wage and hour compliance, and personnel issues.
- Oversee litigation management, claims resolution, and external counsel coordination.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to construction, restoration, environmental services, and safety.
- Review insurance policies, certificates, and coverage to confirm risk management compliance.
- Manage lien filings, collections, and disputes related to client payments and subcontractor obligations.
- Advise on licensing, permitting, and regulatory matters for multi-state operations.
- Assist in developing company policies, handbooks, and procedures to reduce legal exposure.
- Conduct internal investigations and ensure compliance during termination and disciplinary processes.
- Provide leadership training and education on legal topics such as contracts and employment practices.
- Support acquisitions, entity formations, and corporate structure management with finance and HR.
- Serve as liaison with outside counsel for specialized or complex matters.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
Education & Licensing
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license in good standing with the Texas State Bar (multi-state licensure preferred).
Experience:
- 5–10 years practicing law, preferably in construction, real estate, restoration, or corporate compliance.
- Proven experience handling contracts, disputes, and employment law issues.
- Strong knowledge of Texas law and familiarity with multi-state regulatory requirements.

Work Environment:
This role is primarily based in Dallas, TX, with occasional travel to affiliate offices. Standard business hours apply, with some after-hours availability required for contract reviews or litigation deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Annual salary of $120,000 - $140,000
