Job Description:Position Summary:
The Corporate Counsel - Employment plays an important part in the Company's business operations by providing legal advice and support in the areas of human resources, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution. The Corporate Counsel - Employment will serve as a day-to-day counselor to our business leaders and manage the company's employment litigation portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides advice and strategic support to Human Resources Department and company business units on a wide range of employment law issues.
- Supervises and manages outside counsel on employment-related litigation and arbitration matters.
- Actively monitors new laws, rules, regulations and decisions affecting substantive areas of employment law and litigation, and provides strategic advice to company management.
- Drafts and negotiates employment-related agreements, including severance, restrictive covenant, retention, and other agreements.
- Develops, drafts and updates compensation plans and programs.
- Supports resolution of federal, state and local agency claims and charges.
- Represents the company in federal, state and local agency investigations.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned, from time to time.
Education and Experience:
- Doctorate of Law coupled with 5+ years' experience in employment law. Prior law firm and in-house experience is preferred.
- Admitted to practice law, and in good standing in, at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Significant and in-depth knowledge of, and proficiency in, employment law matters, including employment-related litigation and arbitration, agreements and investigations, as well as compensation plans and programs.
- Experience handling fair employment practices claims, including the review of position statements prior to filing with federal, state and local agencies, employee relations issues, and wage and hour claims.
- Retail industry background preferred.
- Experience working with general corporate matters and contracts is a plus.

- Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive data, and multi-task so that deadlines can be met.
