While our primary focus is business law, we continue to experience increasing demand for trademark services. We are seeking an experienced trademark attorney to work with our firm on an independent contractor basis as client needs arise.
About the role:
This is a fully remote, contract position with flexible scheduling. Work will be assigned on an as-needed basis depending on client demand.
The ideal attorney is comfortable handling trademark matters independently while communicating clearly with clients and collaborating with our business law team when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct trademark clearance searches and provide risk assessments
- Advise clients regarding trademark strategy and brand protection
- Prepare and file U.S. trademark applications
- Respond to USPTO Office Actions
- Handle Statements of Use, renewals, maintenance filings, and assignments
- Prepare coexistence agreements and trademark licensing documents when needed
- Advise clients regarding trademark portfolio management
- Coordinate with firm attorneys on broader business matters affecting intellectual property
- Maintain exceptional client communication throughout each matter
Qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum 3 years of substantial trademark prosecution experience
- Experience practicing before the USPTO
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage matters independently
- Excellent judgment and attention to detail
- Client-focused, responsive, and professional
- Experience working with startups and small businesses is strongly preferred
Nice to Have:
- Experience with international trademark filings
- Familiarity with copyright or other intellectual property matters
- Experience using Clio, Lawmatics, or similar practice management software
