Description:
Summary: Suri Law is a looking for a contract attorney/of counsel attorney with experience doing commercial and residential real estate transactions to join our growing team. This attorney will work directly with the firm owner on a per project basis, mainly doing real estate transactions, real estate closings, and commercial leases, though this position may also include opportunities for litigation in commercial landlord-tenant cases and real estate-related civil actions. We have immediate openings for a highly motivated and organized individual who has strong legal writing, research, and communications skills.This position will be 0-20 hours a week and has potential for increased hours, an increased hourly rate, and/or to turn into a full time position (with expanded responsibilities) in the future. This position primarily entails remote work.
Compensation for this position will be hybrid: for transactions, compensation will be a fixed, flat rate for each project determined on a per project basis, and for litigation and dispute resolution, compensation will be hourly at a rate in the range of $80.00 to $120.00 per hour. Payment will be commensurate with experience. Also, compensation varies for any matters which the attorney originates versus those originated by the firm.
This position is ideal for an experienced, practicing attorney who is looking to for independence, flexibility, earning potential, and opportunities for growth but is not interested in operating or dealing with the administrative hassle and overhead associated with running one's own firm.
This position is not for entry level applicants. Please do not apply if you are not at least five (5) years out of law school.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school (required, non-negotiable);
- Admitted to practice and in good standing with the New York State Bar (required, non-negotiable);
- At least five (5) years' experience as a practicing attorney, though over seven (7) years' experience is preferred;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Ability to take ownership of work as an individual;
- Adaptability and willingness to learn;
- Passion for the practice of law;
- Real estate transaction experience;
- Real estate litigation experience (preferred);
- General business knowledge and/or experience (preferred)
- General real estate knowledge and/or experience (preferred); and
- Law Review (preferred).
Responsibilities:
- Attend and conduct real estate closings;
- Structure real estate transactions and advise clients strategically on the implications of various deal structures;
- Draft, negotiate, review, and redline contracts and other documents in relation to real estate transactions;
- Conduct due diligence including title, survey, and zoning reviews.
- Attend client meetings;
- Conduct intake for new real estate-related matters;
- Assist clients with navigating information disputes related to real estate transactions and leases;
- Work with our litigation attorneys to represent clients in real estate-oriented civil litigation and commercial landlord-tenant cases;
- Navigate joint representation of multiple clients in one business transaction or lawsuit and exercise sound business and ethical judgement in monitoring the same for any potential conflicts;
- Conduct yourself with professional integrity;
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required; and
- Please be advised that there is no billable hour requirement for this position; productivity and performance are tracked using other metrics.
Pay: $100.00 - $10,000.00 per month
