Description:

A growing personal injury and criminal defense firm located in Chicago's West Loop is seeking a part-time or contract associate attorney, with the potential to transition into a full-time role. This position will involve providing comprehensive litigation services to a diverse client base.

We seek a litigation-focused attorney who brings genuine enthusiasm for courtroom advocacy, balances professionalism with a strategic and assertive approach, and communicates clearly and effectively with clients from all backgrounds. The ideal candidate is client-centered, demonstrates sound judgment and empathy, and has strong litigation experience in personal injury and/or criminal defense matters.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage a caseload of approximately 10–25 personal injury matters, with opportunities to handle criminal cases as desired.
  • Conduct legal research and draft, file, and respond to motions and briefs.
  • Prepare persuasive pleadings and present arguments in Illinois state courts (and federal court, as applicable).
  • Litigate pretrial motions and handle jury and bench trials.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Participate in mediations, hearings, and trials.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with clients, opposing counsel, insurance adjusters, and other stakeholders.
  • Negotiate settlements and resolutions outside of trial.
  • Counsel clients regarding legal rights, obligations, and strategic considerations.
  • Monitor and stay informed on developments in personal injury and criminal law.
  • Manage cases from initial intake through final resolution, including complex matters.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active Illinois Bar license and good standing (required).
  • At least two years of civil litigation experience; personal injury experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Illinois Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence.
  • Experience litigating matters in Illinois state courts.
