A Corporate Law Firm is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to join our Talent Development department in any of the Firm's offices. This role is responsible for collaborating with Loss Prevention and the client intake team to identify, review, and resolve conflict of interest concerns and other professional ethics/compliance issues related to the intake of new clients and matters and the hiring and onboarding of new attorneys. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to upholding ethical standards in a fast-paced, collaborative legal environment.

About the Opportunity:
Responsibilities:
  • Maintains close working knowledge of rules of professional responsibility and associated conflicts of interest related to (a) new client intake; (b) new matter intake; and (c) lateral attorney intake, as well as relevant firm procedures, policies, and practices
  • Acquires experience and demonstrates knowledge regarding firm clients, attorneys, and related lines of business to promptly and efficiently understand, respond to, and resolve conflict issues
  • Reviews conflict reports prepared by the client intake team and identifies potential conflicts, assists attorneys in resolving potential conflicts, drafts conflict waivers and/or engagement letter provisions, and provides information to the client intake team to establish ethical screens related to new client, matter, and/or lateral attorney intake
  • Reviews preliminary conflict disclosures for lateral attorney candidates and submits them to the client intake team for a conflict check; identifies and communicates with firm attorneys regarding potential conflicts; provides lateral recruiting team and client intake team with clear and concise summaries of potential conflicts and steps required to resolve them
  • Identifies representations in which the firm is adverse to an incoming lateral attorney's former firm and (a) requests that the client intake team implement needed ethical screen(s) and (b) sends required written notices to appropriate tribunal(s) as required by applicable rules of professional conduct
  • Manages the process of preparing, transmitting, and tracking client notification letters and firm selection forms for new lateral attorney hires
  • Performs or directs and supervises legal research and analysis on professional responsibility issues as requested by the firm's office of General Counsel
  • Provides legal guidance and support to Loss Prevention team on issues relating to engagement letter and waiver template
  • If time permits and there is a need, assists the client intake team with monitoring and responding to conflict check requests by timekeepers and support staff

About You:
Experience, Education and Training:
  • JD required
  • Prior experience in legal professional responsibility/ethics/conflicts area preferred
  • Law firm experience strongly preferred
