Description:

Foley & Lardner is seeking an associate with 4-5 years of litigation experience (class years 2021-2022) to join the Commercial Litigation Practice Group in our Chicago office. Qualified candidates must be persuasive legal writers and oral advocates with substantial experience handling complex business litigation matters and navigating the practices and procedures of Illinois state and federal courts. Relevant experience should include developing and executing case strategy, managing all phases of written and document discovery, researching and drafting sophisticated pleadings, dispositive motions, and other court filings, conducting and defending depositions, preparing witnesses for testimony, appearing for status conferences and hearings, and arguing motions.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide mix of sophisticated matters as part of strong client teams. Candidates should have experience independently managing significant aspects of litigation matters, coordinating with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other case team members, and providing strategic guidance throughout the litigation process. The associate will also have opportunities to lead and manage cases, oversee junior attorneys, and take ownership of key litigation responsibilities. Participation in settlement conferences and negotiations and significant trial preparation experience are preferred.

The ideal candidate will be proactive and entrepreneurial, with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and an exceptional work ethic. Candidates must be comfortable interacting directly and regularly with partners and clients and should demonstrate the initiative and judgment necessary to identify opportunities, anticipate case needs, and help drive matters forward.

We are seeking a well-rounded, dynamic, and highly motivated associate who has demonstrated an ability to thrive in a sophisticated practice and a busy, collaborative environment. This associate will contribute to advancing the long-term strategic objectives of our Litigation Department. We value collegiality, creativity, and intellectual curiosity among our lawyers and seek to make the practice both professionally and personally rewarding. Top academics required.

To be considered, candidates must hold a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and must be in good standing and an active member of the Illinois Bar.

Interested applicants should submit a resume, law school transcript, and writing sample. Current judicial clerks need to apply directly and may not be submitted by a legal recruiter.
