The Administrative Office Of the Courts Is the Operational Arm of The Judicial Branch. the Court System Employs Nearly 3,300 Personnel Who Support 406 Elected Justices, Judges, and Circuit Court Clerks.

The Kentucky Court of Appeals Has an Immediate Need for A Staff Attorney. the Coa Staff Attorney Is Responsible for Supporting a Court of Appeals Judge by Performing Legal Tasks and Is Responsible for Reviewing Legal Briefs and Appellate and High Court Records, Conducting Thorough Legal Research, Preparing Legal Memoranda, Analyzing Cases, Proofreading Legal Documents, and Taking Notes. This Position Is in Franklin County.

Examples of Duties or Responsibilities of This Classification:
  • Review Process of Legal Briefs and Appellate Records, Ensuring Thorough Understanding and Organized Documentation.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Legal Research and Analysis of Case Materials for Court Cases.
  • Prepare and Edit Drafts of Opinions, Orders, and Judgments Under Guidance.
  • Proofread Legal Documents.
  • Communicate with Attorneys upon The Direction of The Judge.
  • Support the Court in The Creation and Delivery of Jury Instructions with Guidance.
  • Monitor for And Provide Summaries of Recent Legal Developments and Decisions.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Juris Doctor Degree – Graduate of An Accredited Law School

Experience, Training, or Skills: None

Substitute Education for Experience: None

Substitute Experience for Education: None

Special Requirements (Age, Licensure, Regulation, Etc.): Must be licensed and in good standing with Kentucky Bar Association (KBA).Exception: Attorneys holding a current license in a U.S. state other than Kentucky must be making every necessary step to become licensed with the KBA within eighteen (18) months of employment. Proficient legal research and writing skills. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Meticulous attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

Working Conditions
Typical work within office setting or courtroom setting. In-state travel may be required.
