Job Description:
As a Lead Counsel, Senior Manager, you will provide strategic leadership to a high-performing team of trial attorneys focused on insurance defense litigation. In this pivotal role, you will shape legal strategy, foster cross-functional alignment with claims leadership and senior business partners, and champion a culture of continuous development and empathetic leadership. Your ability to guide through influence will drive results and elevate team performance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic oversight to a team of attorneys, including setting performance expectations, guiding career development, and conducting regular one-on-one coaching conversations.
  • Cultivate strong, collaborative partnerships with claims leadership and senior stakeholders by aligning legal strategy with business goals and ensuring ongoing communication around case progress, litigation plans, and key decision points.
  • Oversee litigation strategy and case progression at a high level, ensuring consistency in quality, outcomes, and resource allocation.
  • Serve as a thought partner to attorneys on complex matters, providing guidance and second-chair support when strategically necessary.
  • Lead operational planning within the department, including forecasting legal spend and analyzing key drivers of litigation trends.
  • Champion a team culture rooted in empathy, accountability, and professional growth—ensuring every team member feels supported, heard, and empowered to succeed.
  • Represent the legal department in strategic discussions and collaborate with internal partners on continuous process improvements.

Education:
  • Juris Doctor (Required)
  • Admitted to practice in Maryland and in good standing (required)

Experience:
  • 10+ years of litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense
  • Prior supervisory or people management experience
  • Candidates must be willing and able to attend in-person meetings for team collaboration, training, and court-related activities throughout the DMV area.
