Position Overview:
The successful candidate will handle a variety of civil litigation and corporate/business matters working with clients from initial consultation through resolution. Responsibilities will include drafting pleadings and legal documents, conducting legal research, participating in discovery and hearings, advising business clients, and assisting with corporate and commercial transactions. We are looking for an attorney who is responsive, analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of matters while knowing when to seek guidance from senior attorneys.

Key Responsibilities- Civil Litigation
  • Manage assigned civil litigation matters with appropriate supervision and support.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, memoranda, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze applicable statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and other proceedings.
  • Assist with case strategy, including evaluating claims, defenses, damages, and potential exposure.
  • Review, analyze, and respond to written discovery and document requests.
  • Work with clients, opposing counsel, courts, mediators, experts, and other professionals.
  • Assist with settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Maintain case files, calendars, and deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, strategy, and next steps.

Corporate & Business Law

  • Advise business owners, corporations, LLCs, and other entities on general business and legal matters.
  • Assist with business formations, entity structuring, reorganizations, and governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Prepare and review operating agreements, bylaws, resolutions, shareholder agreements, and related corporate documents.
  • Assist clients with business disputes and contract-related matters.
  • Conduct legal research and provide practical advice regarding corporate and business issues.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys in other practice areas when matters involve real estate, employment, estate planning, or other legal considerations.

Client & Firm Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
  • Provide timely, practical, and responsive legal advice.
  • Communicate complex legal issues in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Manage multiple matters and competing deadlines effectively.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping and billing records.
  • Participate in client development, networking, and community activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and legal developments.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to deliver high-quality legal services.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active South Carolina Bar license and membership in good standing.
  • 2+ years of legal practice experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage matters independently while appropriately seeking guidance when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong commitment to client service.
