The Opportunity:
We are seeking associate attorneys with 3+ years of civil defense litigation experience to join the Firm's West Hartford, Connecticut based Healthcare and Professional Liability practice group. Gfeller Laurie LLP is a dynamic and rapidly growing litigation law firm with a national practice. The Firm's Healthcare and Professional Liability practice group is anchored by two of the State's premier medical malpractice defense trial attorneys. Successful candidates will assist in defending clients in medical malpractice defense matters as well as matters involving Department of Public Health investigations, pre-suit claims and risk management.

Our associate attorneys within this practice group are highly valued contributors, responsible for contributing to day-to-day case management, reporting to clients, handling written discovery, attending fact and expert depositions, court appearances, trial preparation and trials. They will work closely with the firm's civil litigation partners and therefore, successful candidates must be well-versed in all aspects of their state's applicable practice rules and procedures. Strong analytical, organizational, research and writing skills, as well as a genuine interest in developing sophisticated experience and skills in medical malpractice defense and interest in medical and scientific issues are crucial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of general civil defense matters from inception through resolution
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and discovery
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Attend court conferences, hearings, and mediations
  • Collaborate with partners and clients to develop case strategy
  • Maintain strong client communication and deliver high-quality legal work

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in Connecticut
  • 3+ years of civil defense med-mal litigation experience
  • Strong writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Additional state bar admission(s) a plus (NY, NJ, MA, PA, or VT preferred)
