Guided by the city's shared values of integrity, respect, collaboration and professionalism, the Prosecution Division of the City's Attorney's office handles all misdemeanor violations of the municipal code that occur within the city of Cheyenne. The Chief City Prosecutor prosecutes violations of the municipal code and is responsible for the daily supervision of City Prosecutors, for training, developing, and mentoring new and experienced prosecutors in the practice of misdemeanor prosecution for the City, assisting in the supervision of support staff, and performing professional legal work in preparing and prosecuting cases. The Chief City Prosecutor also assists the City Attorney in providing legal advice to the Cheyenne Police Department and with other matters as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Daily supervision of city prosecutors and support staff within the Prosecution Division of the City's Attorney's Office; and trains and serves as a resource for new attorneys and support staff in the Division;
- Prosecute misdemeanor cases in municipal court, including evaluation of citations filed by the Cheyenne Police Department; make charging decisions; prepare discovery; and draft pleadings;
- Represents the City of Cheyenne in bench and jury trials, arraignments, pre-trial hearings, sentencing hearings, appeals, and other municipal court hearings.
- Under the direction of the City Attorney, provides legal advice and training to the Police Department concerning criminal investigation procedures, seizure of evidence, pretrial, trial and post-trial matters as appropriate;
- Attend City Council meetings and City Council committee meetings as required by the City Attorney;
- Draft and/or consult on ordinances and resolutions affecting the prosecution of cases in the municipal Court;
- In consultation with the City Attorney, respond to inquiries and provide legal advice regarding criminal law and procedure to the Mayor, City Council, City departments and various boards and commissions;
- In consultation with the City Attorney, provide legal advice to the Cheyenne Police Department, including advice on public records requests, contract review, and policy and procedure within the Department;
- In consultation with the City Attorney, provide proactive and preventive legal advice to prevent lawsuits, claims, and other issues from arising;
- Perform general legal research; utilize law libraries and other research mechanisms; and keep current on relevant legal issues;
- Participate in the selection and evaluation, as well as discipline, of legal support staff, and prosecutors; and planning, organizing, and overseeing the work of other prosecutors with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement;
- Maintain compliance with licensing and continuing legal education rules of the Wyoming State Bar.
- Undertake Special Projects at The Direction of The City Attorney;
- Receive and Respond to Public Inquiries, Citizen Complaints, and Requests for Information as Directed by The City Attorney;
- Respond to Inquiries from Courts, the District Attorney's Office, Youth Alternatives, and Other Agencies;
- Perform Other Duties and Responsibilities as Required.
