CASA Kane County is seeking an attorney to join its Legal Department. We welcome applications from attorneys at different stages of their careers. The CASA/GAL Attorney is responsible for the management and prosecution of files to which CASA Kane County is appointed as guardian ad litem (GAL) in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Illinois, including but not limited to, the Abuse and Neglect and Juvenile Delinquency Courtrooms.

The CASA/GAL Attorney works collaboratively with the Legal Team, Advocate Supervision Team, and the organization's volunteer GALs.

Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage assigned juvenile abuse and neglect cases in which CASA Kane County serves as Guardian ad Litem.
  • Prepare for and appear at court hearings, develop litigation strategies, and advocate for outcomes that advance the best interests of children.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, proposed orders, reports, and other legal documents.
  • Analyze legal and factual issues, identify safety concerns, and recommend appropriate legal action.
  • Collaborate with Advocate Supervisors, CASA Volunteers, and multidisciplinary professionals to develop case strategies and ensure informed advocacy.
  • Participate in case reviews, staffing, training, and other meetings that support quality legal representation and organizational effectiveness.
  • Contribute to a collaborative legal department committed to professionalism, continuous learning, and excellence in child advocacy.

Qualifications Required:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active Illinois law license in good standing.
  • Demonstrated litigation or courtroom experience.
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to effectively manage a litigation caseload.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and courtroom professionals.
  • Commitment to CASA Kane County's mission and the best interests of abused and neglected children.

Preferred:
  • Litigation experience in juvenile law, child welfare, family law, criminal law, or another courtroom-based practice.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Salary of $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
