Position Summary, Responsibilities and Qualifications
A Business Law Firm's Captive Insurance Practice Has Been Actively Involved in The Development of Alternative Risk Financing Strategies Since 1975. These Include Programs Providing Coverage for Professional Liability, Errors and Omissions Liability, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Products Liability, Directors and Officers Liability, and Specialized Products, Such as Environmental Impairment Liability and Government Program Compliance Fines and Penalties Exposure. Our Attorneys Also Possess Knowledge of The Commercial Insurance Environment and Are Familiar with The Actuarial Process Utilized in Self-Insurance and Other Risk Retention Devices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Clients in Forming and Licensing Captive Insurance Companies, Risk Retention Groups, and Related Entities;
  • Draft and Review Corporate Formation Documents, Insurance Policies, Governance Materials, and Regulatory Filings;
  • Consult on Insurance Matters Such as Licensing for Agencies, Producers, and Brokers, the Transaction of Insurance Nationwide, and Captive Mergers and Consolidations;
  • Monitor and Analyze Developments in Insurance Laws and Regulations Impacting Captives;
  • Interact with Various Outside Entities, Including but Not Limited To, Clients, Consultants, State Regulators, and Other Law Firms;
  • Deliver High Quality Work-Product and Effectively Communicate at All Levels of The Firm;
  • Demonstrate Excellent Problem Solving Skills;
  • Exhibit Highly Responsive and Efficient Work Habits;
  • Strive to Continuously Improve Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and Seek Guidance and Feedback to Improve Performance and Productivity;
  • Take Responsibility for Enhancing Expertise, in Addition to Seeking out Formal and Informal Training; And
  • Collaborate with Practice Group Members to Serve Clients Effectively.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 Years of Relevant Experience;
  • Ability to Organize and Prioritize Numerous Tasks and Complete Them Under Significant Time Constraints;
  • Outstanding Interpersonal, Analytical, Organizational, and Communication (written and Verbal) Skills Required;
  • J.D. Degree from An Aba-Accredited Institution;
  • Licensed Attorney in Good Standing in Vermont or Michigan; (or with Ability to Waive Into Either Jurisdiction);
  • Preference for Candidates Based in Vermont Who Can Work Remotely and Focus on Serving Vermont-Based Clients, Though Strong Candidates in Michigan Will Also Be Considered; And
  • Ability to Travel Domestically and Internationally as Client Needs Require.
