Description:

Sutter Law, a boutique business and transactional law firm based in the Bay Area, is looking for an experienced attorney to join our close-knit team. This is a full time in office position, with an option of turning into a hybrid position based on performance. Whether you're balancing family life, personal passions, or just value your time outside of work, we'll work with your schedule.

About the role:
We're looking for a detail oriented, smart, self-motivated attorney who enjoys solving problems for startups and growth companies. Someone who is comfortable pivoting from drafting a commercial agreement in the morning to looking at Series A documents in the evening. You'll work directly with clients and firm partners from day one, and your voice will be valued in shaping how we grow together.

We are not a late night, burn the midnight oil firm, we're proud to say we respect 9 to 5 boundaries. We want you to enjoy practicing law. Seriously.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Helping founders form new companies and restructure existing ones to support their long term goals
  • Advising clients on funding rounds, from angel and seed investments to Series A, B, and C financings
  • Structuring and closing M&A transactions for our dynamic client base
  • Helping companies restructure their debt or shut down operations
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, IP licenses, and service agreements
  • Doing deep dive legal research, sharing your insights, and making confident calls
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, executives, and growing businesses

What We're Looking For:
  • California licensed attorney (required)
  • At least 3 years of relevant legal experience (required)
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills (required)
  • Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable seeking direction when necessary (required)
  • Someone who communicates well, thinks strategically, and enjoys working directly with clients
  • Confidence, good judgment, and a genuine enthusiasm for business law
  • A book of business is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to track time and meet deadlines without micro management

Why Work With Us

  • Flexible scheduling tailored to your life and responsibilities
  • The freedom to work independently and the support of a team when you need it
  • A culture that values quality of life, intellectual challenge, and mutual respect
  • Highly competitive and negotiable compensation
