The Role:This isn't a traditional associate position. We're not hiring people to do the work they're assigned. We're hiring attorneys who want to help decide what work should even be done.
At Fornaro Law, you'll own client relationships, think like a business advisor, and move beyond the billable hour treadmill. The goal isn't to complete transactions — it's to help clients make better decisions.
If you've ever felt like you're capable of more than your current role allows, you probably are. The OGC model is built for attorneys who think bigger than the assignment in front of them.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as outside general counsel to middle market companies, family offices, and fast-growing entrepreneurs
- Advise clients proactively on business decisions, risk, and strategy — not just legal tasks
- Own long-term client relationships from day one
- Collaborate with and learn from a senior team that operates as business advisors first
What We're Looking For:
- 6–12 years of experience as an attorney; firm, in-house, or in a client-facing role
- Business-first thinker — you follow the business conversation, not just the legal one
- Ownership mentality — you treat clients like they're yours
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to bring structure to complex situations
- Illinois bar admission required (or eligibility to waive in)
- Former firm owners or solo practitioners
- In-house counsel at mid-market companies
- Senior associates or junior partners ready for something different
- You advise on what work should be done, not just execute what's assigned
- Clients are long-term relationships, not one-off files
- Firm where your work is visible and your voice matters
- Direct access to firm leadership and a real path to grow
Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
