A Government Entity is currently seeking applicants for the position of Bureau Chief of the Transportation Division. The Transportation Division serves as Assistant Attorney Generals to the Nebraska Attorney General and as in-house counsel for the Nebraska Department of Transportation. At NDOT, the Transportation Bureau assists with all legal issues associated with a 2000-employee organization that is responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Nebraska State Highway System and issues involving the NDOT Division of Aeronautics.

Applicants should have a general understanding and/or experience of the following areas of law:
  • Eminent Domain, Condemnation Actions, and Inverse Condemnation.
  • Property law, including all issues related to the acquisition, use and maintenance of property for State Highway purposes.
  • The low-bid competitive bidding process for highway projects along with alternative delivery of highway projects (Design Build, Progressive Design Build, Construction Manager General Contractor (CMGC) and Public Private Partnerships).
  • The enforcement of construction contracts and handling contractor claims and related litigation.
  • The issuance of Highway Bonds.
  • Employment Law.
  • Workers' Compensation.
  • Highway-related Tort Claims under the State Tort Claims Act.
  • Local Federal Aid Highway Projects.
  • Drafting and Enforcing Contracts.

Requirements: Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion; Minimum of one year of experience in a private law firm, government agency, or as a judicial clerk. Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic.

Other: Travel throughout the state of Nebraska required. A criminal history and abuse background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.
