Description:
The Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court is seeking a qualified attorney to serve as appointed counsel on a contract basis to serve as appointed counsel in Family, Divorce, Probate and Juvenile Abuse and Neglect proceedings. This is an independent contract position beginning in March 2026, with a two-year term.Location: Boone County – Belvidere, Illinois
Summary of Responsibilities:
The selected applicant will serve as an independent contractor pursuant to agreed terms and conditions and will operate within the parameters established by the Office of the Chief Judge. This position will supplement the existing Boone County conflict counsel by providing additional support in juvenile court proceedings. Further, this position will be appointed serve as guardian ad litem in Family, Divorce, and Probate proceedings involving qualified fee waivers.

- Caseloads will be determined by the acceptance of those matters assigned by the Court.
- No guarantee is made as to a minimum or maximum caseload.
Position Requirements:
- Must possess a valid license to practice law in the State of Illinois
- Must be in good standing with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC)
- Demonstrated experience / aptitude in juvenile court matters
- Demonstrated experience / aptitude in service as guardian ad litem for court proceedings.

Professional liability insurance
Qualification under Local Rule 14.06 for appointments in child custody, allocation of parental responsibility, visitation and parenting time. Preference given to completion of SAFeR training.
Compensation:
Up to $4,166.66 per month commensurable with experience. No Benefits. Independent contractor is responsible for all state, local and federal tax obligations and the maintenance of all office and equipment expenses.
