Job Description:
The primary purpose of the Immigration Attorney at Voces de la Frontera is to expand legal services to diverse immigrant and refugee populations, including Know Your Rights trainings on asylum rights, civil rights, and labor rights; citizenship clinics and classes; and legal support for naturalization and one-on-one pro bono legal consultations on immigration and labor issues.

This position will work with staff and volunteers to expand Voces legal services, asylum services, citizenship clinics, labor rights services to immigrants and refugees in Milwaukee and across our statewide chapters. The position will also support policy initiatives that better integrate and support immigrant and refugee communities and assist in developing and reviewing multilingual community education materials.

Responsibilities:
  • Train key staff and volunteers to screen and prepare immigration applications and increase the number of BIA-accredited representatives
  • Review cases to identify those appropriate for trained volunteers and those requiring referral or legal representation
  • Coordinate with Voces' network of pro bono attorneys and legal clinic partners
  • Train attorneys, volunteers, and staff for large-scale legal clinics
  • Supervise law students, paralegals, legal fellows, and support staff
  • Provide ongoing staff training regarding immigration benefit eligibility assessments
  • In some cases, provide direct representation in immigration court proceedings and related legal matters
  • Conduct legal research and monitor developments in immigration and labor law
  • Conduct community presentations and Know Your Rights trainings
  • Serve as a legal and policy expert within coalitions and external partnerships
  • Support impact litigation and strategic advocacy efforts aligned with Voces' mission
  • Collaborate across departments including communications, organizing, youth, and worker programs
  • Advance legislative advocacy through legal analysis and technical assistance

Qualifications & Experience:
Education & Legal Experience
  • J.D. required
  • Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish required
  • Minimum of 2 years of immigration legal services experience required
  • Immigration court experience strongly preferred
