The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from South Asia, the Middle East/North Africa, Latin America, and West Africa into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.Our Immigration Legal Department is looking for a highly personable and detail-oriented self-starter to provide immigration legal services to our clients.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school,
- Passed the NY Uniform Bar Exam and is fully authorized to practice law in NY State,
- Experience practicing immigration law (1 to 2 years),
- Experience in filing various forms of immigration relief, including but not limited to Naturalization, Adjustment of Status, DACA, family/fiancé petitions, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), TPS, VAWA, Asylum, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS),
- Strong research skills with the ability to analyze complex immigration issues effectively,
- Limited court experience in immigration and family court,
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
- Conduct legal consultations/screenings and determine whether CIANA can provide relief,
- Schedule and confirm new appointments,
- Work with a Supervising Attorney providing legal consultations,
- Manage correspondence between CIANA, clients, and other institutions,
- Document all legal meetings in our database management system as well as maintain legal files,
- Attend trainings and coalition meetings with other organizations,
- Accompany or represent clients in court or at DHS interviews.
